Mine did not have that, so that is included. These retail for $225 each, so you're saving $200. This is a pair of 2 shocks, as pictured. The black you see on them in the photos is just over spray from an oil-based undercoating.

It looks like Bilstein is now including a black billet reservoir clamp with newer model's. The remote reservoir will offer increased cooling capacity and wheel travel to optimize overall performance compared a traditional shock absorber. These shock absorber feature a mono tube design for consistent fade free performance and utilize velocity sensitive digressive valve settings which are tuned each specific application. Manufacturer part number is 25-242515 / 25242515, which was later replaced by 25-311297 25311297.

They still have plenty of life left in them. You can wipe it off if you want. These Bilstein B8 5160 shocks were only installed on my Silverado for about 10k miles before I decided to sell the truck. It is not corrosion.
